16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,[a] just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”[b]
Pastor Delton reminded us Sunday that God is not ashamed of us, but empowers us to be on display. We’re not ashamed of his message either. The gospel (good news or God’s news) is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.
I am drawn to the words “power of God”. Power is so critical to us. I think of the phrase made popular years ago: “I’ve got the power!”. I need power to live, power to love, power to give, power to share, etc. Paul’s words in Romans say to me that the gospel IS God’s power. It is the power I so desperately need so that I will not only survive, but thrive. It is for that reason that I will not be ashamed…
