Lord of the Harvest,
Today we are praying in accordance with Jesus’ instructions in Matthew 9—asking the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest field.
Jesus once said to his disciples:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” —Matthew 9:37-38
The first worker I am praying for is me! Help me to see myself as Worker #1 in the kingdom. I have more control and influence over what I say and do than any other person on earth. Open my eyes so I can see your kingdom here on this earth so that I can see the harvest that is plentiful. Open my heart so that my default response to requests for help or to get involved is an enthusiastic “Yes!” Open my ears so that I can hear your voice when you gently and quietly call me. Open my lips so that I can sing your praise and give witness to the greatness of God. When I hear your call, help me to say, “Here am I! Send me! Send me!”
Father, we acknowledge that your words in Matthew 9 were initially directed to your first disciples, but they are for ALL of your disciples, throughout the ages.
Jesus, raise up, equip, train, and inspire workers for your kingdom. We need evangelists, teachers, servant leaders, preachers, pastors, missionaries, cooks, greeters, computer techs, sound people, singers, musicians...everyone who has a gift to share. We need them all! Fill our hearts with joy at the thought of using our gifts for your kingdom’s growth. Come, Holy Spirit!
And then send us! Send us to all corners of the earth, to all the fields where the harvest is plentiful. Send your workers to homes, offices, schools, farms, neighborhoods, churches, manufacturing plants, armies, navies, athletic teams and clubs. Send and fill these workers with the Power of your Holy Spirit and in the name of Jesus!
We rejoice that you hear and answer our prayers. We trust in your provision for us in all areas, and especially today in this area of Harvest Workers. We pray boldly that you will provide and send the workers that are needed.
Thank You for calling me to contend in prayer with You for spiritual renewal in every heart, home, church, and this region. Pour out Your Spirit, Lord Jesus, awakening the lost to faith, readying Your church to join You in Your mission and sending workers into the fields ripe for harvest.
