10.18.26 - Sermon Notes
Discover and Do the Servant in You – Part 4 “Seeking the Spirit and Noticing the Gifts He is Giving”

To mature in seeing myself and living as a “Mobilized Servant in the Way of Jesus” I can:

1-     Meet the need in front of me as a Responsible Sibling in God’s family and as a Kingdom Bringer where I live, work, learn and play.

2-     Practice ICNU - Giving away encouragement and affirmation of any ‘God goodness’ I see in my siblings cultivates a family culture where servant self-discovery can happen.

3-     Adopt a “heart posture” of humility and love as I serve in my Spirit given giftedness and as I appreciate the diverse gifts found in others.  This keeps the body of Christ healthy, whole and effective as we serve together in the church, the community and the world.

4-     Keep seeking the One who gives the gifts trusting His leading and noticing what gifts, needs and ways of serving He draws me toward and what passions, desires and zeal He draws out of me.

1 Peter 4:7-11
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Charismata (gifts) – Charis (grace)

Grace Gifts are a means to actively give Empowered Love

Luke 11:9,13
9 And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened...... 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Acts 1:8
8 But you will receive power (able-to-do-ness) when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Romans 12:6-13
6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
