INTRODUCTION
John 10:10
I have come that you may have life and have it abundantly.
Today:
Jesus is the Answer for the Worried and Anxious Heart!
John 10:11-18:
I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs aways because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me —15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life— only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.
I. THE UNIVERSAL STRUGGLE WITH WORRY AND ANXIETY
Proverbs 12:25
An anxious heart weighs a man down.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but pray about everything.
II. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO THIS STRUGGLE WITH WORRY AND ANXIETY?
A. The Self Reliant Solution
1. Sheep are wayward
Isaiah 53:6
We have all wandered away like sheep; each of us has gone his own way.
2. Sheep are dumb
3. Sheep are defenseless
4. Sheep are dirty
B. The Savior’s Solution
John 10:11
I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Two Decisions of the Heart:
1. Committing Your Life to Jesus in Faith
2. Calling Upon Jesus in Prayer
III. WHY JESUS CAN LEAD YOU OUT OF WORRY AND ANXIETY
A. Jesus Knows You
John 10:14-15
I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me —15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father.
B. Jesus Protects You
John 10:11-13
I am the Good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs aways because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
Isaiah 53:4-6 (NLT)
Yet it was our weakness He carried. It was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God for His own sins! 5 But He was wounded and crushed for our sins. He was beaten that we might have peace. He was whipped and we were healed! 6 All of us have strayed away like sheep. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on Him the guilt and sins of us all.
C. Jesus Reigns for You
John 10:17-18
The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.
CONCLUSION
