Saturday's Blog

Welcome to the POG Blog! Today is Saturday which means YOU get to start the discussion on today’s scripture! What is it saying to you today? How does it relate to your life right now? How does it relate to the message from Sunday? Enjoy reading, meditating, and sharing your thoughts with others today!

Today’s Scripture is: Psalm 40:1-8

1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him. 4 Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. 5 Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. 6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire— but my ears you have opened— burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. 7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come— it is written about me in the scroll. 8 I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.”

8.27.14 "Can I See What God is Up To?"

Matthew 6 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I sense that the real connection between this verse and Sunday’s message about “pursuing God” is the word SEEK!
The whole idea of pursuing or seeking God has been rolling around in my heart and mind a lot!
How does a person seek God?
Why should a person seek God?
Is there more motivation than just raw obedience?  If that is all then I know I will fail!

Perhaps there is more motivation/energy for seeking God than just will power?

My attention moves from the command words of this verse to the promise words.  “And all these things will be given to you as well!”  Promises feed faith!  It will take faith for me to seek and keep on seeking – to pursue and keep on pursuing God!
That is where I need to focus – the promises!
The command is “Seek God First, delton” the promise is that “He has taken care of the things I would naturally spend the best of my seeking energy on!”  So in focusing on the promise my best “seeking energy” is spent on seeking God – trusting that He is taking care of my life’s essentials.  In my seeking I will then better see how He is providing for me so that I can better receive His provision!

Yesterday, my daughter who is just starting college, texted me with the “balance due” just posted to her account.  It’s about twice as much as our planning so far had anticipated!  My humanness now has ample justification to “freak out”!  My faith is saying, “delton, first seek God and His path for this…then you will be able to see how He is going to provide and what role you must play and the action steps you need to take in receiving His provision!”

God is up to something! I think today He wants me to know that “Pursuing and Seeking Him” gives me eyes to see His provision for me every day!

Let’s see what God is up to today!
