Heavenly Father,
Our region needs you. The population continues to grow. Where there is incredible opportunity, we also recognize there can be great heartache. There are many people who serve and work specifically for the function and prosperity of our region.
Today we bring them to you.
Lord, for all those who work in city and county government, we pray your blessing. Give them wisdom to govern well. Bring harmony to our region through government. When those leading us go astray, we ask that you would bring them back to the core of what they are called to do so that our region may have peace.
Lord, for all those who work in first response, we pray your blessing. Give them the abilities needed to execute their jobs with skill. For firefighters, EMTs, and medics, give them strength and a gift for healing. For police officers, we ask for courage and cool heads as they meet people in times of great crisis and protect our region from those who would harm others. For all their families we pray for peace. Thank you for these men and women who have made their careers ones of service.
Lord, for all those who work in maintenance and utility, we pray your blessing. It is easy to overlook the many everyday gifts delivered to us in our region. The roads on which we drive. The parks where we enjoy nature and leisure. The water that flows when we turn on our faucets. All of these are provided to us by skilled workers and administrators in our region. Bless the work of their hands and in times of crisis give strength in the midst of repairs.
Let us not grow idle in prayer for these people. They are your gifts of everyday grace to us. May we never grow entitled to what we have here, where we live, but instead rejoice with the many gifts found in our region.
Let us contend, in prayer and action, for the prosperity of our cities and county as you have told us:
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” —Jeremiah 29:7
Thank You for calling me to contend in prayer with You for spiritual renewal in every heart, home, church, and this region. Pour out Your Spirit, Lord Jesus, awakening the lost to faith, readying Your church to join You in Your mission and sending workers into the fields ripe for harvest.
