"Inexpressible and Glorious Joy" - Joy's Unlikely Partner

SERMON NOTES:

We are made for Joy because Maker is Joy full!

Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace ….

Joy has enemies – the Unholy trinity – The devil, the world and my sinful nature!

How do they work together against me and joy?

Galatians 5 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

John 3  3 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again  he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Joy has an unlikely partner – Repentance – “changed thinking” in God’s direction!

Repentance releases Joy!

How does my thinking need to change in God’s direction?

John 15 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

SOLITUDE, SCRIPTURE, PRAYER - GUIDE:

Find a quiet place and 15 minutes.

Solitude – Spend several minutes quietly alone. Take some deep breaths… Just be… … …Ask, “Holy Spirit, speak to me through your Word!”

Scripture – Read slowly, out loud if possible, listen, reread, dwell, notice words & phrases you are drawn to & return there!  (Sermon notes may help with understanding, but don’t stop there.)

Keep asking, “Jesus, what are You saying?  Why this word this day?

What are You asking me to believe about You and about me?  How am I learning to Live Loved?

How do I join You today on Your mission and in my transformation?”

Prayer – Let your conversation with God flow from what He is saying then talk about what you notice is on your heart and also on your list.
