12.31.13 "Live as if each day is your last on this earth!"

Welcome to the PoG Blog!

Please pray:  Lord God, I give you praise and glory!  As I prepare to see one year give way to another, may I be reminded that you have no beginning and no end.  You are constant and consistent; you never change.  Lord, please help me to walk with you throughout this New Year.  Please help me to reflect your never changing love to the people around me.  Guide and direct my head and my heart as I reflect on your Holy Word.  Amen!

Luke 2: 25 – 32

25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him. 26 It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. 27 Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:

29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,     you may now dismiss[a] your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31     which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,     and the glory of your people Israel.”

Oh to live life with the attitude Simeon had - “I’ve seen your salvation…now I’m ready to go!”  As we think about the start of a New Year, we are reminded that each and every day (hour, minute, second) is a gift from God.  And each one of those days, hours, minutes, and seconds could be our last.

Since we as believers, along with Simeon, have seen the salvation bought with Jesus’ blood on the cross, we can and should live with the attitude Simeon had.  Live as if each day is your last on this earth!  We do that by loving God and loving others.

As we close out 2013 and begin another year, commit yourself to living with Simeon’s attitude: “…you may now dismiss your servant in peace”!

Happy New Day and Happy New Year!
