Consecration "The Utter Relief of Holiness" - Set Apart for His Mission

SERMON NOTES:

CONSECRATION!

Set Apart for His Mission

What is Consecration?

To consecrate is to make holy, sacred, “set apart unto the Lord!”, surrender, dedicate afresh!

Consecrated for what?

1 Peter 2 9-10 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

John 4 34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. 35 Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest……
39 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. 41 And because of his words many more became believers.
42 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Jesus followers are set apart (consecrated) to join Jesus in His mission to redeem and restore humanity to their Father in heaven who loves them very much!

This gives meaning, purpose and joy to everyday ordinary living – we get to join Jesus on His mission.

We don’t go for Him we go with Him.  He is doing all the heavy lifting.

We get to join Jesus on His mission through Alpha by praying, inviting and bringing people.

Alpha is a profoundly effective evangelism (reaping) tool relevant for today.

Study Guide

Keep asking, “Jesus, what are You saying?  Why this word this day?

What are You asking me to believe about You and about me?

How do I join You today on Your mission and in my transformation?”

Prayer – Let your conversation with God flow from what He is saying then talk about what you notice is on your heart and also on your list.

Consecration "The Utter Relief of Holiness" Can I Trust Jesus with My Everything?

SERMON NOTES:

CONSECRATION!

Can I Trust Jesus with My Everything?

What is Consecration?

To consecrate is to make holy, sacred, “set apart unto the Lord!”, surrender, dedicate afresh!

What consecration makes us ask?

Is Jesus good, is He safe, can I trust Him with my everything?

You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat people,
                                                                                    handle p
ower and                                                                                     affect those around them.

Jesus and People

Luke 8 47
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

Jesus and Power

John 13 3
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

The Jesus Affect

Luke 19
But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Consecration "The Utter Relief of Holiness" (Part 2)

SERMON NOTES:

CONSECRATION!
           The Utter Relief of Holiness

What is Consecration?

To consecrate is to make holy, sacred, “set apart unto the Lord!”, dedicate afresh!

What consecration makes us ask?

Is Jesus good, is He safe, can I trust Him with me?

Matthew 313 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

What kind of character does Jesus reveal?
Jesus exudes a deep humility …. He is free to be strong and confident.

Matthew 43 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Character?

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Character?

10 Jesus said, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Character?

Can you trust Him with you?

A Prayer of Consecration for 2019

My dear Lord Jesus Christ, we come to You today to be restored in You and renewed in You.

Jesus, we confess that You are the author of our faith and the foundation of Your church.  We are called to be Your children and Your church in 2019.

We now consecrate this year of life as individuals, as families and as Your church to You and You alone!
You are God and we are not in 2019.

We surrender every aspect of our lives totally and completely to You.  We yield our spirit, soul, body, our heart, mind and  will to the life and lead of Your Holy Spirit.  Come Holy Spirit, fill us afresh this day and every day this new year!

Jesus, we receive all the work and triumph of Your life, death, resurrection, ascension and current reign over our lives and church.  We pray, “Hallowed be Your name, Your Kingdom come and Your will be done” in our lives and church in 2019.

Jesus, I am Yours totally and completely in 2019.  You purchased and redeemed me from sin, death and the devil so I now consecrate all of my life in 2019 to You and You alone -
- my time, ability and money,
- my sexuality, influence and personality,
- my work, pleasures and ambition
- my brokenness, imperfections and failures
- my loves, losses, worries and dreams
- my everyday all day life.

I now bring the authority, rule and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ over all aspects of my life this new year.

Jesus, we are Your church and this is Your year totally and completely.  We now bring the authority rule and dominion of the Lord Jesus Christ over our church this new year!

We come in Jesus name against Satan and His kingdom and bind and banish him and all forces of evil from our lives, our families and our church this year in the powerful and victorious name of Jesus!

Jesus, we surrender our agendas for this new year to You and You alone and call forth the Kingdom of
God and the gracious reign of Jesus over ourselves, our families and our church in 2019!

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen!

Consecration "The Utter Relief of Holiness"

SERMON NOTES:

CONSECRATION!
           The Utter Relief of Holiness

What is Consecration?

-          To consecrate is to make holy, sacred, “set apart unto the Lord!”, dedicate afresh!

Why Consecration?

Exodus 19 10 And the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes 11 and be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.  14 After Moses had gone down the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes.
Leviticus 20 “‘Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.
Romans 12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
1Peter 1
13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
Colossians 3 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

How is holiness an “utter relief”?

-          Holiness in Jesus name is both the gift of life in Jesus and the way to live in Jesus!
